Begin Your Career as a Deputy Cadet

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office offers an exciting pathway to become a P.O.S.T. certified Deputy Sheriff.

Upon initial selection and successful completion of the application and hiring process, individuals will begin their careers at the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Academy (HRLETA).  This Colorado P.O.S.T. approved academy is situated on 117 acres and is the premier training facility for law enforcement agencies throughout the Denver metro area.

Deputy Cadets will complete a 21-week academy consisting of classroom and practical instruction for entry into law enforcement.  Upon graduation and passing of the P.O.S.T. certification test, Deputy Cadets will be eligible for appointment as Deputy Sheriffs with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Cadets will receive an annual salary of $63,038.  Upon appointment to Deputy Sheriff, annual salaries will increase to a minimum of $78, 988.  Deputy Sheriffs may receive a higher starting pay based on previous certified law enforcement and/or Military Police experience.
