SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION FOR EMPLOYMENT

We choose individuals whose qualifications most closely meet our needs. Please complete your application as thoroughly as possible. Please review the disqualifications prior to submitting your application.

APPLICATION RECEIVED & REVIEWED BY HIRING UNIT

The Hiring Unit is reviewing applications every business day. You will be notified via email that we have received your application and that it is in the process of review. You will be contacted via email if your application is approved and you have been invited to proceed in our process.

PANEL INTERVIEW

You will be interviewed by a panel consisting of several DCSO employees.  You will answer multiple questions provided by the panel to showcase your skills, abilities and qualifications.  Panel interviews usually last 20 – 30 minutes and may be in person or virtual.

PERSONAL HISTORY QUESTIONNAIRE (PHQ)

You will then receive our Personal History Questionnaire which includes your work history, education, residential history, personal references, etc. You will be required to submit documents to include but not limited to: driver’s license, birth certificate, social security card and high school diploma.

OBSTACLE COURSE (DEPUTY APPLICANTS ONLY)

The testing will take place at our Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Facility. Applicants must pass the obstacle course in 96 seconds.

WRITTEN EXAM (JOB SPECIFIC)

The written exam is a timed general education test that focuses on spelling, punctuation, grammar, and writing. You must pass each section of this exam with a 70% or better score.

INTEGRITY INTERVIEW

An integrity interview is a one-on-one interview with our Hiring Unit to verify the accuracy of the information included in your application and your Personal History Questionnaire.

POLYGRAPH EXAM

We use a third-party vendor to conduct the exam.  The exam is used to further verify information disclosed in the Application, PHQ, and Integrity Interview.

PRE-CONDITIONAL PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAM

We use a third-party vendor to conduct the exam.  The exam is used to assess the applicant’s initial suitability for employment.

CONDITIONAL OFFER

Upon successful completion of the above steps, you will be provided with a Conditional Offer. The offer is conditional upon availability of the position and successful completion of the remaining steps in the hiring process.  The conditional offer will list your starting annual salary and remaining steps of the hiring process.

POST-CONDITIONAL PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAM

We use a third-party vendor to conduct the exam.  The exam is used to further assess the applicants overall suitability for employment.

MEDICAL EXAM

We use a third-party vendor to conduct the exam.  The exam verifies the applicants ability to physically perform the essential job functions.  Medical tests vary by position; however, each applicant will be given a drug test, TB test, vision and hearing test.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

The Hiring Unit will verify information disclosed at any and all steps of the hiring process, to include but not limited to, employment, criminal history, education, residential history, etc.  A background report will be authored and submitted up the chain of command for approval.

SHERIFF'S INTERVIEW

Once your background investigation report has been approved through the chain of command, you will be contacted to schedule your Sheriff’s interview with either the Sheriff, Undersheriff, or a Chief Deputy.
